It is a sport where participants must propel a boat on the water, using muscle strength of one or various rowers, in a straight line travel, sitting with their backs facing the direction they are headed. They have their feet locked to the boat, while their seat slides back and forth as the oars row.

A rower or the teammates must know how to manage the race to perfection, making sure to manage every aspect of it smartly and have enough energy at the end of the race.
 
In this sport the climatic conditions and the state of the water are crucial factors with which the crewmates must combat to achieve their best performance.
