Water polo

August 09, 2021
Water polo is a sport that is practiced in a pool, where two teams face each other and the winner is the one with the highest number of points scored in the opponents goal within the reglementary time.

It was created in the year 1877 and is played in a total time of 32 minutes, divided in four quarters of 8 minutes. During that time, two teams formed by 6 players and 1 goalkeeper each play. The competitors can move freely within the game area, which is 30m by 20m and at least 2m deep. They stand upright by floating in the water and raise their upper body well above the surface to pass and shoot.

The swimmers can only use one hand to hold the ball, except for the goalkeeper who can use both hands and all of them play with their feet avoiding the bottom of the pool.
